Beautiful Bluebonnet Season !

The best part about living in Texas is the beautiful Texas wildflowers

They have been absolutely gorgeous this year

I especially love the Bluebonnets

Sometimes seeing them from a distance while driving on a road looks like a sea of blue

Even amateur photographers can't resist the urge to grab a camera and snap away

People love to put their children  or  their pets  among the flowers and take pictures

They  grow  everywhere !

I took these pictures just a few blocks from where I live

Aren't  they  awesome?

The Power of Prayer !

A prayer in the morning
means a day of blessing, for sure

A prayer in the evening
means a night of rest secure

A prayer in our weakness
means the clasp of a mighty Hand

A prayer when we're lonely
means someone to understand

A prayer in our sorrow
means comfort, and peace and rest

A prayer in our doubting
assures us _ the Lord knows best

A prayer in rejoicing
gives joy and added delight

Those who remember God's
goodness go happily into the night

There's never a day nor a season
that prayer cannot bless every hour

No soul need ever be helpless
when joined with God's infinite power

Warning: Do not try this at home ! !

I have always been amazed by performers that eat fire and swallow swords.
I find my self wondering... how are they doing that?
And I wonder ... do they ever burn themselves?   Especially when they are learning the routine.
Are these performers brave and courageous or would you call them daredevils?
Is this considered a talent or is it a sport?
Anyway, thought I'd share the following with my friends in blogger land.

~ From a recent performance at the 'Flying Monkey' in Huntsville Alabama.~

Rosewood, Fire, and Steel combines classical guitar with the ancient art of sword-swallowing, dance, and fire-eating for a performance that is both musically and visually thrilling.
The duo teams up guitarist Phil Weaver with Patricia Forrest, who has an extensive background in dance and musical theater. She was a member of the Huntsville Ballet Company and danced in the Nutcracker as well as other ballets. She is a member of the Sword Swallower's Association International, a very exclusive group of only a few dozen members worldwide.

Have a super great weekend !

Ways to Spot a Mother on a Date

1.  She immediately moves all salt, pepper and sugar packets out of arm's reach.

2.  She reaches in her purse, pulls out a baggy of Teddy Grahams and offers them to her husband as a pre-dinner appetizer.

3.  She gives her order to waiter in baby talk.  "Is the pasta that twisty around and around kind, or the itty-bitty baby snail shell kind?  Because the twisty around and around kind tastes really yucky."

4.  She stands up and tucks her husband's  napkin under his chin.  Then she returns to her seat, folds  her napkin into the shape of a diaper and lays it in her lap.

5.  Before leaving the restaurant, she asks her husband,  "Are you sure you don't need to go to the potty?  It's a thirty-minute  drive home now"

Downtown San Antonio Cattle Drive!

Approximately 38,000 people turned out to watch this morning as eight drovers wrestled about 30 Texas Longhorns through the streets in the heart of historic downtown San Antonio.

Each year the cattle drive serves as the kickoff for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo which will begin this coming Thursday.    Yee Haw  !

Texas Meteor

I didn't see it,  but lots of others did.

Many people also said they heard what sounded like a sonic boom (or booms) associated with the fireball, which was apparently witnessed all the way from San Antonio to Oklahoma City.

Pretty?
Fascinating ?
OR  .... Scarry ?
What do you think?

The Birthday of a KING !

Elvis Aaron Presley
(January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977)
One of the most popular American singers of the 20th century.
A cultural icon, he is widely known by the single name Elvis.
He is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King".

Presley's birthplace in Tupelo, Mississippi
Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to Vernon Elvis and Gladys Love Presley in the two-room shotgun house built by his father in readiness for the birth. Jesse Garon Presley, his identical twin brother, was delivered 35 minutes before him, stillborn.
As an only child, Presley became close to both parents and formed an unusually tight bond with his mother.
The family attended an Assembly of God church where he found his initial musical inspiration.
Presley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family at the age of 13.  He began his career there in 1954, working with Sun Records owner Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience.   Accompanied by a guitarist and a bassist, Presley was one of the originators of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country and rhythm and blues.
RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage the singer for over two decades.

Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", released in January 1956, was a number one hit.   He became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll with a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records. His energized interpretations of songs, many from African American sources, and his uninhibited performance style made him enormously popular—and controversial. In November 1956, he made his film debut in Love Me Tender.
Conscripted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work.  He staged few concerts however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided. In 1968, after seven years away from the stage, he returned to live performance in a celebrated comeback television special that led to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of profitable tours. In 1973 Presley staged the first concert broadcast  globally via satellite, Aloha from Hawaii, seen by approximately 1.5 billion viewers.
Prescription drug abuse severely compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 from cardiac arrest at the age of 42.
Presley is regarded as one of the most important figures of 20th-century popular culture. He had a versatile voice and unusually wide success encompassing many genres, including country, pop ballads, gospel, and blues. He is the best-selling solo artist in the history of popular music.
Nominated for 14 competitive Grammys, he won three, and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36.  He has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.

I was lucky enough to have attended a concert by Elvis in the 1970s at the VBCC in Huntsville Alabama.
It was absolutely amazing. He gave the most incredible performance I have ever seen by anyone in my entire life. I still have the souvenier banner I purchased at the concert.

Figure Eight

It's heart warming to see Grandpa feeling like he's 15 again as his grandson looks on with amazement in this 1948 painting from Rockwell's   "Grandpa and Me" series.
Norman Rockwell was a 20th-century American painter and illustrator. His works enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States for their reflection of American culture. Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life scenarios he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine for more than four decades
