San Antonio Christmas Lights

This past weekend was the Christmas River Parade, an annual holiday even in San Antonio.

This year the city replaced the lights on the River Walk with LED lights (to conserve energy) but most people don't like the new look and are not very happy.

Some of the remarks were:
*  The new lights lack the romance of the old ones.
*  The trees are not well lit, mainly because the new lights do not drape the tree canopies.
*  In years past, it was beautiful and magical the way the lights swayed over the river itself and as you rode on the barges the lights seemed to surround you like brightly colored twinkling stars.
*  Now,  it seems there has been a lot of money spent on very dense, tightly packed lights that are sometimes obscured by the canopy of the trees.
*  Nothing moves or twinkles or blinks...

I've posted pictures of then and now.

Now - 2011

                                What do you think?

  1. Gorgeous pictures. I saw them a few times long ago. Your beautiful photos bring back some sweet memories and some sad ones too to my mind.

  2. First I want to thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting on my pet pictures. Then I want to say I am sorry that you have had Blogger issues also. As for the pictures I think the first one is much prettier than the other one. Hugs

  3. I'm old fashion and don't care much for the bluish glow as opposed to real light glow. I'm with you with this, I much prefer the old lights.

Thanks for following my blog and welcome. JB

  4. the previous year is prettier. much more sparkly.=)

  5. So happy to meet you! I am looking forward to getting to know you and being a new follower.
I am glad you found my site so I could find yours.
    Love meeting new Texas bloggers.
Your before and after pictures of the river walk are something to see. I too prefer the before. I understand the reasoning behind changing but don't you wish sometimes things would not change so much.
I love San Antonio and would love to visit during the holidays
I hope while you were at my site you signed up for my long over due giveaway> If not please be sure and enter
